It has been determined that your pet requires a shave-down groom in order to deal with his/her matted coat. This procedure is performed to alleviate the discomfort a pet experiences from a tight matted coat and to forego the pain that would occur if someone tried to brush out all of his/her mats. The only way to remove matted fur is to shave it close to the skin. When hair mats to the skin it can create an environment for skin irritation or infection to occur and one or both of these may be uncovered when the hair is removed. These possibilities are consequences of matting and the only solution is to shave the pet and then prevent future matting by regular brushing.
I understand that shaving will result in a very short coat over the majority of my pet’s body, that it may uncover infected skin, and irritation may occur as a consequence of the shaving procedure and the matted coat. Knowing this I consent to the shave procedure.
